The 31-year-old prince who is second in line to the throne and serves as defense minister, said early May that Saudi Arabia would fight what he called Iran’s efforts to extend its influence.
“We are a primary target for the Iranian regime,” Bin Salman added, accusing Iran of seeking to take over Islamic holy sites in Saudi Arabia.
“We won’t wait for the battle to be in Saudi Arabia. Instead, we’ll work so that the battle is for them in Iran,” he added.
Just hours before the two terrorist attacks in Tehran which killed and wounded several people, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir also underlined that Iran must be punished for what he claimed as interference in the region and support for terrorist organizations.
Jubeir, who is in Paris since Tuesday, claimed that Iran is a host for some Al-Qaeda leaders as well as other commanders from other terrorist organizations.
The minister further urged Iran not to interfere, alleging that Tehran is the number one supporter for terrorism in the world.
For Iran to be a “normal state,” it must respect international law, he said, adding that the Iranian government’s “political ideas” are completely rejected.
